Russian water congress has been the country's official water forum since 2017. The event was established within the framework of the Year of Ecology in Russia, announced by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated 05.01.2016 No. 7 "On holding the Year of Ecology in the Russian Federation." The Forum is held annually under the patronage of the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport Sergei Ivanov, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and on behalf of the Government of the Russian Federation. The purpose of the congress is to organize a professional expert dialogue between the authorities and water industry on the protection of national water resources.

Within the framework of the Russian Water Congress, the main water management exhibition in Russia, VODEXPO, is held annually. The largest industry engineering, construction and design organizations, manufacturers and suppliers of industrial equipment for all areas of water use are represented on its site.
The key task of VODEXPO is to demonstrate modern technologies and digital solutions for the development of the country's water management complex, the implementation of projects for the protection, rehabilitation and rational use of water resources, the implementation of measures for the construction and reconstruction of hydraulic structures, reclamation systems, port infrastructure, hydropower facilities, heat and water supply and water supply.
